Hesketh Hill

Getting up Hesketh Hill is a proper little outing from Clitheroe, and the effort pays off with decent views across the Ribble Valley. It's not a major peak - more of a brisk walk than a proper fell - but on a clear day you can see across Lancashire's farming landscape with some decent sightlines towards the bigger hills beyond.

The summit itself is modest. There's no café, no visitor centre, no fanfare. What you get is a grassy top, a bit of breathing space, and the satisfaction of having walked somewhere that most tourists driving through Lancashire will never bother with. The approach is straightforward enough, though the paths can be muddy after rain - so pack decent boots.

Walkers and hikers are the obvious crowd here, but it's also decent for families wanting something achievable without needing full kit or a four-hour commitment. Kids who can manage a mile-long walk at a steady pace will get there without too much grumbling. Allow about an hour round trip if you're moving at a normal pace.

If you're based at Parkdean Resorts Todber Valley or Holgates Ribble Valley - both within a mile - this makes sense as a morning ramble before heading elsewhere. It's worth the trip if you're already walking in the area, less so if it's your sole reason to visit Clitheroe. The real value is as part of exploring the wider Ribble Valley walking network rather than standing alone as a destination.
