Alton Towers lies just twenty minutes northeast - the rollercoasters visible from the surrounding hills on clear days. For something more sedate, The Heath House represents Georgian elegance at its finest, complete with an Ornamental Parterre Garden that's been lovingly restored. St Mary's and All Saints' Church in nearby Checkley showcases Norman architecture, though most visitors miss it entirely.

Stoke sits on the A50, making it dead easy to reach from Manchester or Birmingham. The M6 runs close by too.
