Lord's Coppice

Dense woodland paths wind through this working forest just outside Stoke-on-Trent, where the sound of chainsaws occasionally breaks the rural quiet. Lord's Coppice isn't a manicured nature reserve - it's proper commercial forestry where timber extraction happens alongside public access, giving it a refreshingly unpolished feel.

Walkers will find a decent network of tracks threading between the trees, though signposting is patchy and you'll need a proper map or GPS if you plan to venture far. The going can be muddy after rain, so decent boots are essential. Dog owners seem to love it here - plenty of off-lead opportunities once you're away from the main paths.

Families with young children might find it a bit challenging. There are no facilities, no visitor centre, and the paths aren't buggy-friendly. Older kids who enjoy a proper woodland adventure will get more from it, especially if they're into den building or wildlife spotting.

Expect to spend an hour or two here at most, unless you're combining it with a longer ramble through the surrounding countryside. It works well as a leg-stretcher if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Quarry Walk or Springfields Countryside - both within easy driving distance. Free parking along the roadside, though spaces are limited at weekends.
