Trawsallt

The walk up Trawsallt from Aberystwyth is modest in length but proper steep in places, which means you're rewarded quickly with views that stretch across Cardigan Bay. It's not a dramatic peak - more of a serious hill really - but from the top you get a proper perspective on the Ceredigion coast that makes the huffing and puffing worthwhile.

The route itself takes you through farmland and rough moorland, and you'll likely have the place to yourself even in decent weather. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip depending on your fitness. There's no visitor infrastructure up here - no café, no gift shop, no faffing about - just you, the wind, and some seriously good views if you time it right.

Historically types won't find much to get excited about, but walkers absolutely will. The climb suits anyone with reasonable fitness who doesn't mind a bit of effort for the payoff. Families with younger kids might find it tedious unless they're the outdoor type who'll actually enjoy a proper walk rather than a stroll.
