Devil's Cauldron

The walk to Devil's Cauldron takes you up into the hills above Aberystwyth, where the coastal views suddenly open up and you realise why locals bother making the trek. It's a viewpoint rather than an attraction with facilities - no cafe, no gift shop, just a proper vantage point where you can see right across Cardigan Bay on a clear day. The name comes from a deep rocky hollow that catches the light in a particular way, though honestly the views outward matter more than the geological drama underfoot.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a casual stroll - there's a decent climb involved - but families with older kids who don't mind a bit of effort will find it genuinely rewarding. Allow an hour or so return trip from the nearest access point, longer if you're not used to uphill work. The path can be muddy after rain, so proper boots aren't a luxury. Go on a clear day; mist rolls in fast up here and you'll have paid good money in leg effort for views of absolutely nothing.

If you're staying at Woodlands Caravan Park or Brynllwyd Glamping just outside town, this fits well into a day exploring the Ceredigion coast. It's free to visit, which is just as well given there's nowhere to spend money once you're up there. Pair it with a walk down to the seafront in Aberystwyth itself rather than treating it as a standalone trip.
