Tarvit Pond Walk

The walk around Tarvit Pond, just outside Cupar, is a straightforward circuit that takes the best part of an hour if you're not dawdling. The pond itself is the main draw - it's a decent-sized body of water with proper woodland backing onto it, and on a clear day the reflections are genuinely worth pausing for. You'll see waterfowl most visits, and in spring the birdsong gets properly loud.

It's the sort of place that works brilliantly for families with young walkers. The path is flat, well-maintained, and there's nothing tricky underfoot - you won't need proper hiking boots. Kids can throw sticks in, spot ducks, and burn off energy without the adults feeling like they've signed up for a fell race. The woodland is dense enough to feel like you've escaped, but you're never more than a few minutes from the car park, which is handy when someone needs the loo.

Birders and nature photographers will get genuinely decent use out of it too. The mix of water and trees pulls in a reasonable variety, and the light in late afternoon can be lovely if you time it right. Don't expect dramatic vistas or rare sightings - this is honest, local walking country.

It's free, obviously, and you can do it any time. If you're camping at one of the nearby parks like Craigtoun Meadows or Clayton Caravan Park, this is a proper no-fuss option for a morning sortie. Worth combining with a wander around Cupar town itself if the weather's decent.
