Oliver Hill

Oliver Hill sits just outside Buxton, a proper fell walk that rewards you with decent views across the Peak District without breaking you in the process. It's not a gruelling slog - more of a brisk ramble that takes the best part of an hour from the nearby car parks, climbing steadily through moorland and rough pasture until you hit the summit.

The viewpoint itself is modest but genuine. On a clear day you can see right across the gritstone edges and into the valley below. It's the sort of spot where walkers naturally pause, have a drink, and actually look at the landscape rather than just rushing through it. Not Instagram-famous, which is rather the point - you won't be fighting for elbow room at the top.

Families with kids aged eight and up will manage it fine. Younger ones might find the final push tedious. Dog walkers absolutely love it - open moorland all the way, no stiles to be an absolute nightmare with a lead. History buffs won't find much to excite them here; this is purely about the walk and the view.

There's no visitor centre or facilities, so bring water and sensible shoes. The weather changes quickly up here, so don't set off in bright sunshine thinking you're sorted.

Stay at Peak Glamping Hideaway just 1.4 miles away and you've got a proper local walk on your doorstep. Better still, pair it with the larger parks like Longnor Wood or Camping at The Hollies for a multi-day hiking base in the High Peak.
