Hollins Hill

Standing at 1,506 feet, this limestone summit offers proper Peak District views without the crowds you'll find on Kinder Scout or Bleaklow. The climb from Buxton takes about an hour of steady walking, following well-marked footpaths through typical Derbyshire drystone wall country. Nothing too taxing, but you'll know you've worked for it.

From the top, the panorama stretches across the White Peak's rolling plateau, with Buxton's Georgian terraces visible below and the Dark Peak moors rising in the distance. On clear days, you can pick out the distinctive outline of Shutlingsloe to the west. The summit itself is unmarked - just a grassy dome with a small cairn - but that's part of its appeal.

Walkers will appreciate this as a quieter alternative to the honeypot hills, though families with young children might find the approach a bit much. The terrain can be boggy after rain, so proper boots are essential. Allow two to three hours for the round trip from Buxton, longer if you fancy extending the walk along the ridge.
