Dow Low

Standing at 1,555 feet above sea level, this limestone peak offers proper Peak District views without the crowds that flock to Kinder Scout or Bleaklow. The summit sits just southeast of Buxton, making it a decent leg-stretcher if you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Longnor Wood Holiday Park or Peak Glamping Hideaway.

Reaching the top involves a straightforward walk across moorland - nothing too taxing, though the path can get boggy after rain. The panoramic views from the summit take in the White Peak's rolling hills and, on clear days, you can spot the limestone quarries that define this part of Derbyshire.

Walkers and peak-baggers will get the most from Dow Low, particularly those working through the area's lesser-known summits. It's not spectacular enough to warrant a special trip, but combines well with other walks in the region. Families might find it a bit dull - there's not much here beyond the view and the satisfaction of reaching another Derbyshire peak.

Allow two to three hours for the round trip from the nearest parking. Best tackled in decent weather when the views actually materialise. It's free to access, naturally, and works well as part of a longer walking holiday based at sites like Knotlow Farm or the various options around Buxton.
