Law Hill

The walk up Law Hill from Hebden Bridge is steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs, but the payoff is proper worth the effort. This isn't a gentle stroll - it's a genuine climb that takes the best part of an hour depending on fitness and how often you stop for breath. The summit sits at around 330 metres and gives you those wide-open Pennine views that make you understand why people rave about this part of Yorkshire.

What you're really after is the panorama. On a clear day you can see across the moorland for miles, with Hebden Bridge tucked into the valley below looking like something from a postcard. The hill itself is moorland - rough grass, heather, and the kind of exposed terrain that changes character completely depending on the weather. Summer's pleasant enough, but autumn offers better visibility and fewer midges.

This works brilliantly as a half-day outing if you're based at either Hebden Bridge Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Old Chamber Camping nearby. Both are genuinely well-reviewed and give you easy access to the walking routes. Budget two to three hours for a proper visit including time to sit at the top and actually look at the view rather than just arriving and turning straight round.

History enthusiasts might be interested - there's a tower on the summit, though it's not in great shape. Families with older kids will find it rewarding; younger ones might struggle with the steepness. It's the kind of walk where your legs remember it afterwards, but your head remembers the views for longer.
