Iron Age Camp

The ramparts are still there, rising from the Welsh hillside like someone's forgotten defenses. This Iron Age camp sits above Borth, commanding views across Cardigan Bay, and you can walk the perimeter in about half an hour if you're not stopping to take in the vista. What you're looking at are the ditches and banks that once enclosed a settlement - nothing remains of the actual structures, but that's the thing about Iron Age sites: your imagination does half the work.

It's a proper spot for anyone interested in prehistory, though history buffs expecting labeled exhibits will be disappointed. There's no visitor center, no interpretation panels, just the earthworks themselves and the landscape. Kids might find it boring unless they're already keen on archaeology - it's essentially a hillside walk with bumps - but families who enjoy combining a stroll with a bit of education will get something from it.

Free to visit, naturally, and you can access it more or less anytime. Allow an hour if you want to walk the camp and absorb the setting rather than charge through it. The nearby holiday parks - Cambrian Coast, Searivers, and Aber Bay are all within five miles - make it an easy add-on to a coastal break. Borth itself is a small seaside village about ten minutes' drive away if you need a cup of tea afterwards. Honestly, it's worth the detour if you're staying in the area and like your history without the crowds, but don't make a special trip unless archaeology genuinely interests you.
