Bryn-Yr-Eithin

The walk up Bryn-Yr-Eithin from Borth takes about forty minutes if you're moving at a steady pace, and the effort pays off once you reach the summit. This isn't a dramatic peak - nothing like Snowdon or Cader Idris - but it's a proper little hill that gives you genuine views across Cardigan Bay and inland towards the Cambrian mountains. The landscape around here is open moorland and rough grassland, so there's nowhere to hide from the wind, but that's partly what makes it worthwhile.

Walkers will find this the real draw. The route from Borth is straightforward enough, following tracks and field paths that are well-trodden but can get boggy in wet weather, so good boots matter. You're looking at a couple of hours there and back, which makes it ideal for a morning outing during a caravan park stay - most of the nearby sites like Cambrian Coast Holiday Park or Clarach Bay Holiday Village are within striking distance. Families with older kids who don't mind a bit of a slog will find it manageable, though younger ones might grumble about the lack of dramatic scenery to keep them motivated.

This is moorland walking rather than a tourist attraction with facilities, so bring water and something to eat. There's no admission fee because there's nowhere to pay. The best time is clear weather - which in West Wales is never guaranteed - but a misty day does give the place a certain moody appeal. It's not the kind of hill that will take your breath away, but it's an honest walk with real views, and that's often worth more than the hyped-up spots.
