Caer Pwll-Glas

Getting up to Caer Pwll-Glas is the whole point, really - a proper walk through Ceredigion moorland that rewards you with genuine views across to Cardigan Bay. It's not a mountain, more a substantial hill with prehistoric fort remains at the summit, though honestly the earthworks are subtle enough that you won't spend long photographing them. What you will do is walk. The approach from Borth takes you through rough grazing land and heather, and it's a fair slog depending on which route you pick. Allow a good couple of hours there and back if you're not moving fast.

Best for walkers who like their exercise with a side of history rather than people looking for easy viewpoints. Families with older kids will manage fine, but it's not the sort of thing where you can take a leisurely stroll - proper hiking boots help, especially after rain when the ground gets boggy. Go early morning or late afternoon to avoid the worst of the wind, and check the weather before you head out. It's exposed up there.

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks around Clarach Bay or Aber Bay, this sits nicely as a morning walk before heading down to the coast at Borth itself. You're in that quiet corner of the Ceredigion coast where the tourists haven't quite worked out yet, which is rather the point. The views justify the walk, but go in with realistic expectations - this is moorland, not mountains.
