Banc Ty-Hen

The walk up Banc Ty-Hen isn't long, but it's steep enough to get your blood moving. From Borth, you're looking at a proper little climb to reach the summit - nothing that'll defeat you, but enough to remind your legs you're on holiday.

Once you're up there, the views across Cardigan Bay are genuinely worth the huff and puff. Clear days give you sight lines for miles, and you can see why this stretch of the Ceredigion coast draws walkers year-round. The peak itself is modest - no dramatic crags or stone cairns - but the surrounding moorland has that raw, windswept character that makes Welsh hill walking feel authentic rather than sanitised.

It's absolutely a walker's spot, and families with children who can manage uneven ground will find it manageable too. You're probably looking at an hour or so for the round trip from Borth, depending on how long you linger at the top. There's no café or facilities up there, so bring water.

If you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Cambrian Coast is closest at three miles out - this makes a decent half-day outing rather than a commitment. The real appeal is that it doesn't require a drive to some honey-pot summit car park; you can walk from the village itself. Weather permitting, go in the afternoon when the light's better for photographs. Spring and autumn tend to be clearer than summer.
