About High Rigg
The summit view is genuinely excellent. You get the full sweep of Derwent Water laid out below, with Catbells and the Helvellyn range beyond. On a clear day it's proper lovely, though I'll admit the fell itself is a bit sparse - heather and grass, nothing fancy. The real magic is the vantage point rather than the walk itself.
Historywise, there's a Stone Age stone circle at the base (Castlerigg Stone Circle is just down the road and far more impressive, mind), so this works as a leg-stretcher between proper attractions rather than a full day out. Budget an hour and a half total if you're not rushing.
If you're camping at Castlerigg Hall or Threlkeld Hall - both within spitting distance - this is an ideal warm-up walk before tackling something more ambitious. It's the sort of fell where you can shake off the drive without committing to a serious mountain day. Free to access, park responsibly at the lane, and go early if the weather looks decent. After, Keswick town is close enough for lunch.
