Garn Boduan

The walk up Garn Boduan isn't long, but it's steep enough to earn respect. This rocky outcrop rises abruptly from the Pwllheli hinterland, and once you're on the summit you understand why it mattered - the views across the Llŷn Peninsula unfold properly, with Snowdonia muscling in from the south on a clear day.

It's a proper hillwalkers' peak rather than a casual family stroll. The path zig-zags up through moorland and outcrops, and the final push involves some scrambling. Allow an hour up, perhaps 40 minutes down if you're confident on loose stone. Most people find it takes two to three hours total, including time to sit and actually look at the view rather than just catching your breath.

Historically there's an Iron Age fort on top - you can still make out the defensive banks if you know what you're looking for, though it's easy to miss them among the rocks. The real draw is the vantage point itself. This is walker territory, not a tourist attraction with facilities. Bring water, decent boots, and weather appropriate clothing.

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Tal-y-Fan or Gimblet Rock are within 5 miles - this makes a rewarding half-day adventure. The walk works year-round, though spring and early autumn are kindest. Winter can be properly slippery. It's the sort of hill that doesn't look much from below but rewards the effort handsomely once you're on top.
