Mynydd Tir-Y-Cwmwd

The walk up Mynydd Tir-Y-Cwmwd rewards you with proper views across the Llŷn Peninsula - the kind of vista that makes the leg work worthwhile. It's not a massive peak, but that's rather the point. From Pwllheli, you're looking at a straightforward climb that takes most people between an hour and ninety minutes, depending on fitness and how often you stop for photos.

This is walkers' territory, pure and simple. Families with young children might find it a bit steep for what it is, though the views from halfway up are decent if anyone needs convincing to keep going. The landscape is typical North Wales moorland - gorse, grass, and the occasional stone marking the path. On a clear day you can see across to Snowdonia. On a grey one, well, you get the authentic Welsh experience.

There's no visitor centre, no tea shop, no facilities - bring water. It's free to climb, naturally. The best time is late morning when the light's decent but you've missed the early mist. Summer crowds aren't really an issue here; it's not a honey-pot spot.

If you're staying at Tal-y-Fan Holiday Park just down the road, you've got a cracking half-day excursion without needing to drive anywhere. Gimblet Rock and Treheli Farm give you slightly more distance but still within reach for an afternoon out. It's the sort of walk that fits nicely between breakfast and dinner - proper hill country without the commitment of the bigger peaks.
