Lleyn Golf Centre

The Lleyn Golf Centre sits just outside Pwllheli on the Llŷn Peninsula, offering 18 holes of straightforward golf in a fairly windswept corner of North Wales. It's the sort of place where you can turn up without months of advance notice and actually get a round in - no pretentious membership nonsense. The course itself is moderately challenging rather than brutal, with enough water hazards and rough patches to keep you honest without making it unbearable if your handicap's not stellar.

Walkers and casual players will get more from this than serious golfers chasing a championship course. The landscape around here is genuinely lovely - you get proper views across the peninsula, and on clear days the light is exceptional. Allow three to four hours for a full round, or two if you just fancy nine holes to warm up. The wind off the coast can be properly fierce, so bring extra balls and manage your expectations accordingly.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Tal-y-Fan or Gimblet Rock are closest at just a couple of miles - it's a convenient way to fill a day without driving too far. The glamping spots further out at NightSky or Away From It All work too if you don't mind a slightly longer journey. Pwllheli itself has decent shops and cafes for a post-round pint, though the town itself is fairly quiet outside summer season. Worth the detour if golf's your thing and you're in the area anyway, though it's not the sort of course worth planning your whole holiday around.
