The walk through Coed-cyd feels like stepping into something genuinely wild - ancient woodland that's properly steep in places, with paths that wind between oak and birch trees older than most buildings in Aberystwyth. You're looking at a serious forest, the kind where light filters through in shafts and the ground stays damp even after dry spells.

It's an easy drive from town, which makes it brilliant for families staying at any of the nearby campsites - Brynllwyd Glamping is barely a mile away, and Woodlands Caravan Park only slightly further. The forest itself won't take hours to explore unless you're genuinely into bird-spotting or photographing woodland flora, but an afternoon here works perfectly alongside a seaside afternoon in Aberystwyth proper.

Walkers will find proper trails rather than manicured paths, which is either a selling point or not depending on your mood. Children get bored quickly if they're expecting adventure playground stuff, but if they like scrambling over fallen logs and spotting wildlife, this is their world. The terrain can be muddy and root-strewn, so decent boots matter.

I'd suggest going early morning if possible - fewer people, better light for photographs, and you might actually see something moving through the trees rather than just hearing it.
