Whitley Hill and Slate Hill provide decent climbs for those wanting to stretch their legs, while the forests around Fenwick North Wood are brilliant for mountain biking or just a peaceful wander. Bolam Lake itself is the star attraction - a lovely spot for families, with easy paths around the water and plenty of wildlife to spot.

History buffs will appreciate the ancient Slate Hill Camp, though don't expect much more than earthworks and a good story. More rewarding are the local churches - St Mary the Virgin and St Bartholomew both have character, while Aruna Ratanagiri offers something completely different as a Buddhist monastery.
