Wolfrey Ridge

The walk up Wolfrey Ridge isn't long, but it's proper steep in places - the kind of climb that leaves your legs talking to you by the summit. You'll get proper views across the Pennines from the top, especially on a clear day when you can see for miles. It's one of those peaks that doesn't take all day, which means families with younger legs might actually enjoy it rather than complain the whole way up.

From Skipton, you're well positioned to tackle this as part of a wider walking holiday. The ridge sits nicely if you're exploring the Yorkshire Dales - not the most dramatic peak you'll find, but solid walking with honest views. Allow a couple of hours for the ascent and a bit of time to catch your breath at the top. There's something satisfying about bagging a peak this close to town without needing to dedicate your entire day to it.

The nearby caravan parks - Howgill Lodge and Wharfedale Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite are both highly rated - make decent bases if you're planning a walking-focused trip. Wood Nook is another option nearby. These parks give you access to plenty of fell walking without having to move camp every other night. Wolfrey Ridge works as a warm-up walk if you're new to the hills, or a quick bag if you're packing several peaks into a week. Not life-changing, but it does the job.
