Wemyss Hill Monument

Standing atop a modest rise in the rolling Fife countryside, this weathered stone monument marks one of those spots that makes you wonder about the stories it could tell. The obelisk itself isn't particularly grand - you won't be queuing for Instagram shots - but it commands proper views across the surrounding farmland towards the Firth of Forth.

History buffs will appreciate the connection to the Wemyss family, though you'll need to do your homework beforehand as there's precious little interpretation on site. The walk up from the nearest car parking spot is gentle enough for most fitness levels, making it a decent leg-stretcher if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Annsmuir or Wigwam Holidays Montrave Estate.

What strikes you most is the peace of the place. On a clear day, you can spot the bridges spanning the Forth in the distance, with Cupar nestled in the valley below. Kids might find it a bit dull unless they're into scrambling about on the surrounding hillside.
