Todley Hill

The walk up Todley Hill rewards you with proper moorland views across the South Pennines - the kind of vistas that make you understand why people actually chose to live out here. It's not a dramatic summit by any stretch, but from Keighley it's an accessible climb that takes the better part of an hour if you're not rushing. The peak itself is unremarkable - a trig point and some windswept grass - but the approach matters more than the destination. On clear days you get real visibility across Lancashire into Yorkshire, which beats sitting in a car boot.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's the sort of place where you're genuinely alone with the elements, no visitor centre nonsense, no crowds. Kids who enjoy a moderate hill walk will manage it fine, though very young ones might find the exposed sections a bit exposed. Bring proper kit - the weather changes fast up here.

There's no entrance fee because there's nothing formal to enter. You park near Keighley and work from there. Allow two to three hours for a proper outing if you want to enjoy the walk rather than just bag the summit.

Camp at Woodsworth Exploring or Tip Top Campsite nearby and you're perfectly placed for this and the broader Penning moorland walking. Bronte Country Park sits just two and a half miles away if you want to mix literary heritage with your fell walking. It's not a destination that sells itself on Instagram, which is precisely why it's worth doing.
