Robin's Bottom Plantation

The name alone makes you smile, but Robin's Bottom Plantation is a genuinely decent woodland walk just inland from Scarborough. It's proper forestry - dense trees, quiet paths, the sort of place where you'll actually hear birdsong instead of arcade machines. The plantation stretches across enough ground to give you a solid hour's ramble without needing to commit to a full day hike.

You're walking through mixed woodland with a real sense of peace about it. No fancy visitor centre, no ticketed entry - it's just a forest that's there to be walked. Families with kids of about eight and up will get the most from it; younger ones might find the paths a bit samey. Walkers after something between a quick stretch and a proper trek will find the distance about right. History types won't find much - it's plantation woodland rather than ancient forest - but that's not really the point.

The nearest town is Scarborough, which means you can tie this into a broader coastal trip without too much faffing about. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks within spitting distance - Parkdean Resorts Cayton Bay or Humble Bee Farm Glamping are closest - this is an obvious morning out when the weather's dry. Don't expect dramatic views or rare species. It's straightforward woodland walking, and sometimes that's exactly what you need when you're on a park holiday and fancy a break from the sea air.
