Elf Home

Bronze Age burial chambers don't come with more evocative names than this. The Elf Home sits in farmland between Scarborough and Filey, comprising the remains of a prehistoric long barrow that's managed to survive thousands of years and centuries of farming. What you'll find is a grassy mound with exposed stonework - the skeletal remains of what was once an impressive chambered tomb.

Archaeology enthusiasts will appreciate the site's significance, though casual visitors might find it underwhelming. The stone chambers are partially exposed, giving you a glimpse into how our ancestors buried their dead, but there's precious little interpretation on site. Kids might enjoy the mystical name and scrambling about the stones for ten minutes before declaring themselves bored.
