Nut Wood

Walking into Nut Wood feels like stepping back in time - the trees here are genuinely old, their trunks thick and gnarled, creating a proper woodland canopy that filters the light into a soft, dappled green. It's a small forest just outside Warwick, the sort of place where you can still find hazelnuts underfoot in autumn and where the air smells exactly as woodland air should.

This is walkers' territory. The paths wind through naturally, nothing over-engineered, and you're looking at a solid hour to ninety minutes if you want to do it justice without rushing. Kids will find it engaging enough - there's always something to kick through or examine - but it's not a destination that screams adventure playgrounds or visitor facilities. That's rather the point. What you get is peace and old trees, which sounds simple until you're actually standing in it.

The nearest proper base is Warwick itself, just a couple of miles away, and several of the caravan parks - Newlands, Monks' Barn Farm, and Twitey's Glamping Meadows are all within a short drive. It slots neatly into a broader Warwickshire walking itinerary without demanding any special planning or expense. Come in late September or early October when the light's that particular amber colour and the woodland's dropping its seeds. Worth the detour if you're in the area and actually fancy woodland rather than 'an experience'.
