Goldicote Cutting Nature Reserve

The railway cutting near Warwick has become something of a local secret for woodland wanderers. What started as an old transport corridor has transformed into a proper nature reserve where the high banks and established trees create a sheltered microclimate that feels quite separate from the surrounding farmland.

You're essentially walking through a sunken lane bordered by mature woodland on both sides. The cutting itself is the main feature - steep banks covered in native trees and undergrowth, with the path running between them. In spring the bluebells are decent enough, though nothing that'll stop you dead in your tracks. Summer brings shade and birdsong; autumn offers the usual bronze and gold. It's genuinely peaceful, which counts for something when you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks around Warwick like Monks' Barn Farm or Newlands.

This is a walker's spot rather than a destination in itself. You'll spend maybe 45 minutes to an hour here depending on how slowly you move. Families with young kids might find it a bit linear and lacking in features - it's not a circular route with drama at every turn. But if you're into woodland birds, insects, or just want a quiet stroll without the crowds, it does the job.

Free to visit, no facilities that I'm aware of, and best tackled on a dry day when the paths aren't boggy. From Warwick town centre it's close enough for an afternoon outing, fitting nicely around a wider exploration of the area's walking routes.
