Hempstone Knoll

Families with older children will find the walk perfectly manageable, though toddlers might struggle with the rougher ground near the top. The path winds through typical moorland, bracken giving way to shorter grass as you gain height. On clear days, you can spot Barnard Castle's distinctive outline in the valley below.

What makes this climb special is the sense of space. Unlike some of the more popular peaks, you're unlikely to share the summit with crowds. It's proper countryside up here - sheep, stone walls, and that particular silence you only get on high ground.
