Giant Sequoias

These aren't California redwoods - they're proper giants standing in the New Forest near Brockenhurst, and they'll stop you dead when you first spot them. Giant sequoias were planted here in the 19th century, and several have reached genuinely impressive heights, towering above the surrounding woodland in a way that feels almost wrong for Hampshire.

You can walk among them for free, which is the main draw. It's not a formal visitor attraction with facilities or interpretation boards - just trees in a forest setting. Most people allow 30 minutes to an hour depending on how far they want to wander, though serious walkers could easily spend longer exploring the wider New Forest trails that connect to the site.

Families with younger children might find it a bit underwhelming if they're expecting a theme park experience. Older kids who like nature and the idea of "world's biggest" records will get more from it. Tree enthusiasts and photographers come specifically for this, particularly in early morning light when the scale becomes genuinely humbling.

The location works brilliantly if you're already camped nearby - Long Meadow Campsite and Black Knowl are both under two miles away. You could easily combine this with a broader New Forest exploration: walks, ponies, heathland. Worth a detour if you're in the area, but don't plan a trip around it alone. Go for the trees themselves, not for the facilities or crowds - because there won't be either.
