Standing at just over 200 metres, this modest peak on Anglesey offers views across the Menai Strait towards Snowdon that are far more impressive than its height suggests. The walk up from the coastal path near Caernarfon takes about 45 minutes through rough grassland and rocky outcrops - nothing too challenging but proper walking boots are sensible given the uneven terrain.

Families with older children will manage the ascent comfortably, though toddlers might find the scramble over loose stones a bit much. The reward at the top is a proper panoramic sweep taking in the castle at Caernarfon, the Snowdonia peaks beyond, and on clear days you can spot Bardsey Island to the south.

What makes this little hill special is how quiet it stays. While thousands tramp up Snowdon daily, Garreg Lefain sees maybe a dozen walkers on busy weekends. The peace up there feels rare in North Wales.

Timing matters - come in late afternoon when the light catches the mountains just right. Early morning works too if you fancy having the place to yourself. Allow two hours return from the nearest parking.

For families staying at one of the nearby parks like Bryn Gloch or Snowdon View Holiday Park, this makes a decent half-day adventure without the crowds and expense of the bigger peaks. Just don't expect facilities - bring water and snacks.
