Craig y Ceffyl

The walk up Craig y Ceffyl rewards you with proper views across Cardigan Bay and back towards Aberystwyth. It's a steady climb through scrubby woodland - nothing too demanding, maybe half an hour from the car park if you're not rushing - and the Ceredigion coast opens out once you crest the ridge.

On a clear day you can see right across to the Preseli Hills inland. The viewpoint itself is just a rocky outcrop at the top, no visitor facilities or interpretation boards, which means it feels genuinely unspoilt rather than packaged. Families with young walkers should manage it fine; the path's well-trodden and the gradient's manageable.

It's the sort of place you'd combine with time in Aberystwyth proper - the pier, the seafront - rather than make a trip just for the summit. But if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby, Woodlands or Tyn Ffordd Fach, it's an ideal mid-morning outing before heading to the beach. Doesn't require booking or payment as far as I can tell, so there's no friction getting out here.

Worthwhile if you're in the area, genuinely disappointing if you drive an hour to climb it. The views matter here - go when there's weather clarity, not on a grey Welsh afternoon when the bay disappears into nothing. An hour maximum, all in, including the walk down.
