On a clear day, which admittedly isn't guaranteed in West Wales, the view stretches for miles. Walkers and hill enthusiasts will appreciate it; families with young children might find the boggy bits annoying. It's free, obviously, since there's nothing there but rock and grass. The best time to visit is late morning or early afternoon when the light's decent and you've got a fighting chance the cloud will have lifted. If you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby - Brynllwyd or Woodlands are both close to Aberystwyth - this makes a solid half-day outing. Combine it with a walk around the town itself or a trip up to the cliff railway for a proper day out. Worth the detour? Yes, if you're in the area and the weather's cooperating. Don't make it a special trip from elsewhere.
