Cors-y-Gedol Ancient Settlement

Walking out to Cors-y-Gedol feels like stepping back three thousand years. This Bronze Age settlement sits on a low ridge near Llanbedr, and what you're looking at are the remains of circular stone huts - some barely visible now, others still showing their foundations clearly enough to make out where people actually lived in the second millennium BC.

It's not dramatic in the way some archaeological sites are. There are no towering stones or obvious structures; instead you get scattered rocks arranged in circles, a handful of cairns, and the real archaeology is in understanding the landscape itself. The site opens onto views across the Afon Artro valley, which probably looked much the same to whoever was farming sheep here when Bronze Age metalworkers were still making their mark on Wales.

History enthusiasts will find this genuinely rewarding - the settlement's well-documented and there's proper interpretive material about daily life and the culture of the period. Families with young children might find it a bit thin on the ground unless they're already into archaeology; it takes patience and imagination to read the stones. Walkers will appreciate it more - the approach is pleasant moorland, and you can combine it with longer routes in the area.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted. It's a decent afternoon stop if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby - Rowen or Sunnysands are closest - though plan on about ninety minutes including the walk up. Go when it's dry; the ground gets boggy after rain.
