Getting to the summit of this 540-metre peak requires proper walking boots and a decent level of fitness - there's no gentle stroll to the top here. The climb starts from the valley roads south of Llanbedr and winds its way up through bracken and rough grassland, with the final approach quite steep and pathless in places. Views from the top stretch across the Rhinog range and down to the coast near Barmouth on a clear day.

Walkers with experience of Welsh mountains will appreciate the solitude - this isn't Snowdon, so you're unlikely to share the summit with crowds. The route takes around three hours return from the nearest parking spot, making it a proper half-day expedition rather than a quick jaunt.

Families staying at nearby holiday parks like Shell Island or Min-y-don might find this one too challenging for younger children. Better suited to teenagers who can handle rough terrain and adults looking for a genuine mountain experience without the tourist hordes.

Timing matters here - go on a misty day and you'll see nothing but cloud. Check the forecast and aim for clear conditions to make the effort worthwhile. The path can be boggy after rain, particularly in the lower sections.
