Carn Treliwyd

The walk up Carn Treliwyd is proper Pembrokeshire - steep enough to get your heart racing, but nothing that demands technical gear or mountain experience. What you get at the top is a decent vantage point across the countryside around Haverfordwest, especially fine on a clear day when you can pick out the Preseli Hills in the distance.

It's an honest peak rather than a spectacular one. The summit isn't particularly dramatic - you won't find dramatic rock formations or a cairn to photograph endlessly - but it rewards the effort with straightforward views and the kind of peaceful walking that makes a holiday in Wales work. Figure on an hour for the full ascent and descent, maybe longer if you're stopping to catch your breath or have small legs tagging along.

Families will find it manageable if the children are reasonably keen walkers - nothing vertiginous, just a consistent climb. Serious hill-baggers might tick it off between other peaks in the area, but come here for the walk itself rather than bragging rights.

The climb costs nothing and operates on your own schedule. Given the cluster of campsites within a couple of miles - Lleithyr Farm is barely a mile away, and Pencarnan Farm Camping sits at 2.3 miles - this makes a logical morning sortie before heading to the coast or bagging another peak. It's the sort of place you'll find yourself returning to on a drizzly afternoon when you want something straightforward without the drive.
