Carn Perfedd

The walk up Carn Perfedd rewards you with proper 360-degree views across Pembrokeshire's inland valleys - moorland rolling away in every direction, with the Preseli Hills dominating the horizon on clear days. It's not a dramatic peak; nothing like Snowdon or Pen y Ghent. But that's rather the point. The summit sits at around 1,000 feet, and the climb from Haverfordwest direction is steady, manageable for most walkers without being a proper slog.

You're looking at maybe ninety minutes up and back, though you could easily stretch it to a full afternoon if you wander the surrounding moorland. The terrain is open grassland and rough heath - windswept in bad weather, absolutely luminous in low winter sun. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find it a bit of a plod without the payoff of a cafe or view indicator at the top.

The real value here is as a detour during a Pembrokeshire holiday. Base yourself at one of the local caravan parks - Lleithyr Farm is less than a mile away - and combine this with a coastal walk or visit to Haverfordwest itself. It's not going to be the highlight of your trip, but on a good day it's genuinely lovely, and the solitude makes a change from the crowded coastal paths. Go when the weather's settled. In rain, the appeal drops considerably.
