Carburton Dam

The dam itself is quietly understated - a modest concrete structure that creates a small reservoir just outside Worksop. The water is the main draw. It's a decent size for a contemplative stroll around the perimeter, and on a clear day there's enough space to feel properly away from it all despite being so close to town. The walk takes about thirty minutes to an hour depending on pace, making it ideal if you need to stretch your legs between park activities without committing to anything demanding.

Historically it's tied to Worksop's industrial past - built to supply water for the mills that once powered the town. That industrial heritage doesn't jump out at you visually, but it adds a bit of local context if you're into that sort of thing.

Worth the detour? If you're staying at Clumber Park or nearby, absolutely - it's close enough to pop over for a quick break. If you're purely looking for dramatic scenery, you'd be better served by the estate grounds at Clumber itself, which is only 2.2 miles away and has considerably more to offer. Bring waterproofs and expect muddy footpaths if it's been wet. There's no café or facilities on site, so plan accordingly.
