Brown Bears- Whipsnade Zoo

The brown bears at Whipsnade Zoo are absolute show-stoppers. Whipsnade itself is a drive-through zoo experience, which means you can see the bears from your car or via the walking paths depending on your energy levels. The bears command real presence - they're not hiding in some distant corner. If you time it right and visit during feeding times or early morning, you'll catch them at their most active.

Families with children under ten will get the most from this. Teenagers might find it a bit slow unless they're into wildlife photography. The site sits near Dunstable in Hertfordshire, so it's well positioned for a wider Chilterns break. Merlin Farm Camping is literally on your doorstep - 1.4 miles away - which makes it brilliant for a park-based trip where you're splitting time between the zoo and walking the surrounding hills.
