Walkers will find themselves spoilt for choice. Clachnaben offers the most rewarding climb - a proper hill walk with cracking views across the Dee Valley from its rocky summit. Mount Shade provides an easier ramble, while the peaks of Little Kerloch and Craig of Dalfro reward those seeking quieter paths away from the crowds.

The town itself has character. Its high street runs parallel to the river, lined with independent shops and cafes that actually survive year-round rather than just during tourist season. The old bridge provides lovely photo opportunities, particularly when autumn colours reflect in the Dee's dark waters.

Getting here couldn't be simpler - just 18 miles west of Aberdeen on the A93. The train service connects directly to the Granite City, making car-free visits entirely feasible for those wanting to explore on foot.

Staying at one of the nearby parks makes perfect sense. Feughside Caravan Park puts you right beside the River Feugh, while Banchory Lodge Caravan Park offers easy access to the town centre. Both serve as excellent launching points for tackling the surrounding hills or simply enjoying riverside walks without the hassle of city parking. The location means you're never more than a short drive from either Highland scenery or Aberdeen's urban attractions.
