Ord of Tillyfumerie

The walk up Ord of Tillyfumerie rewards you with proper panoramic views across Aberdeenshire and down towards Banchory. It's not a dramatic peak - more of a substantial hill walk than a mountain venture - but the landscape unfolds nicely as you climb, and on a clear day you can see for miles across the Royal Deeside region.

This is ideal if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like Feughside or Glen Dye Cabins and want a half-day outing that doesn't require serious hiking experience. Most walkers tackle it in under two hours return, depending on fitness. There's no formal visitor centre or facilities at the top, just the views themselves and a decent sense of accomplishment.

Walkers with young legs will find this more interesting than toddlers, if I'm honest. The walk itself is straightforward enough but not thrilling for children who'd rather be on a playground. That said, families who enjoy outdoors time will appreciate the relatively accessible route and the bragging rights of reaching the summit.

Banchory sits close by and makes a good base - you can grab supplies there before heading out. The surrounding countryside is very pleasant for a longer holiday, with Glen Dye a particularly handy spot if you want to stay nearby. Weather matters here like everywhere in the Highlands, so pick a day with decent visibility or you'll mostly see cloud. Worth the effort on the right day.
