Ynys Llancynfelyn

The walk up Ynys Llancynfelyn isn't long, but it's steep enough to make you feel like you've earned the view. This rocky peak rises above Borth on the Ceredigion coast, and from the summit you've got the whole sweep of Cardigan Bay laid out in front of you - proper dramatic on a clear day.

It's the sort of place where you'll see why the Welsh coastline gets under your skin. The peak itself is modest in height, nothing that requires technical gear or hours of scrambling, but the climb is genuine. You're looking at around an hour there and back from Borth itself, which sits just below. On a good day the views reach far enough to make the huffing worthwhile.

This works brilliantly if you're staying at Cambrian Coast Holiday Park or Searivers Caravan Park - both are within striking distance. It's the kind of walk that suits families with older kids or anyone who likes a bit of grit without needing full hiking kit. Younger children might struggle with the gradient.

Go early in the day if you can. The peak draws a decent crowd on summer weekends, and the narrow paths get a bit crowded. Bring water - there's nothing up there. The ground can be boggy after rain, so decent boots make sense. It's free to walk, naturally.

What you're really paying for here is that moment at the top when Cardigan Bay stretches out below and you can see why people have been drawn to this coastline for centuries.
