Yarburgh Plantation

A thick belt of conifers planted in neat rows, Yarburgh Plantation sits just outside Bridlington and makes for a proper woodland walk when the East Yorkshire coast gets too windy or the beach crowds overwhelm you. It's not some ancient forest - the name tells you what it is - but it does the job if you want an hour under the trees without driving far from your caravan.

The plantation is straightforward: paths wind through spruce and pine, mostly flat terrain, and it's the sort of place where kids can run about without you losing them instantly to open moorland. On a grey day it's atmospheric enough. On a sunny one, less so - the tight spacing of the trees means it can feel a bit gloomy even at midday.

Walkers will find it useful as a leg-stretcher rather than a destination in itself. History enthusiasts won't find much to get excited about. Families with young children will get twenty minutes of novelty out of it before asking how much longer. If you're based at Bridlington Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or The Old Mill just down the road, it's worth knowing about, but don't expect anything wild or dramatic.

The real draw is proximity. You're minutes from Bridlington's seafront, so bundle everyone into the car, do your woodland loop, then head back to the promenade for ice cream. That's the honest pitch.
