Sewerby Steps

The chalk cliffs at Sewerby drop sharply to a narrow beach just north of Bridlington, and the steps that cut down through them are genuinely steep - proper leg work on the way back up. You're looking at a decent nature reserve that hugs the coastline here, with good walking routes across the grassland above and access to the foreshore below if the tide allows.

It's the sort of place that rewards a couple of hours rather than a quick snap for Instagram. The cliffs themselves are interesting geologically, and in spring and summer the grassland draws in plenty of birds and butterflies. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it fine, though the steps are unforgiving on tired legs. Birdwatchers and coastal walkers get the most out of it - there's genuine appeal if you're into that side of things.

You can reach it from Bridlington town centre in a short drive or a bracing walk along the clifftop path. The nearby holiday parks - Bridlington Caravan and Motorhome Club is closest at just over a mile away - make it an easy morning or afternoon slot while you're in the area. No facilities at the steps themselves, so grab coffee in town first. The walk works especially well in quieter months when you're not fighting crowds. Timing it around the tides makes sense if you want beach access. Worth doing once if you're based locally, though it's not quite worth a special detour on its own.
