White Stag

The White Stag stands on the outskirts of Newtownards as one of those local landmarks that locals know well but visitors often miss entirely. It's a striking statue - a gleaming white deer sculpture that catches the light properly, especially on a clear day when you can see it from quite a distance. The thing's become something of a fixture for the area, a convenient meeting point and a spot worth a quick stop if you're driving through or staying at one of the nearby caravan parks.

Truth is, you won't spend hours here. It's the sort of place you pull over for five minutes, take a photograph, maybe let the kids run about for a bit, then move on. That said, it's a decent landmark if you're basing yourself at Dunroamin Caravan Park in Millisle or Sandycove Holiday Park just down the road - both within easy driving distance. If you're staying in the area with family, it's worth knowing about as a quick photo stop between other attractions rather than a destination in itself.

The surrounding area has plenty to explore, and the stag serves as a useful orientation point when you're finding your bearings in Ards and North Down. It's free to visit, obviously, and there's usually space to park nearby. Go at any time - weather doesn't really affect it. Best visited as part of a wider day out rather than a standalone trip, but locals would probably tell you that's exactly how most visitors end up seeing it anyway.
