It's ideal for a half-day outing if you're staying at Oak View or one of the glamping spots nearby. The walks are gentle rather than challenging, which means families won't hit a wall of complaints after an hour, and it's the kind of place where you can actually spot something living rather than just trudging past scenery. Bring binoculars if birdwatching is your thing - the reserve takes it seriously enough that you'll feel like you're doing it properly.

There's no visitor centre to speak of, so go in knowing what you want to see or you might wander about aimlessly. Spring and early summer are when it truly pays off - everything's nesting, flowering, or both. Winter's quieter but less crowded if solitude matters more than action.
