The View Point near Berwick-upon-Tweed delivers exactly what it promises - a proper vantage spot overlooking the Northumberland landscape where the Tweed valley opens up below you. It's the kind of place where you can see why someone bothered to mark it on the map in the first place.

You won't spend hours here, and that's fine. It's a quick stop rather than a destination in itself - maybe ten minutes if you're unhurried, five if you've just nipped out of the car. The views across the rolling border country are decent, especially on a clear day when visibility stretches out properly. On a grey one, it's rather less inspiring, so timing matters.

This works best as part of a larger wander around the area. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks - Haven Berwick Holiday Centre is only 3.8 miles away, or Ord House Country Park if you want something rated slightly higher - it's worth tacking on to a morning drive. Walkers doing the broader Berwick trails might pass through. Family groups with restless kids will find it a good stretch-the-legs moment rather than an activity.

Bring a camera if you've got one. Come when the weather's on your side. And don't make a special journey unless you're already exploring this corner of Northumberland properly. It's a nice punctuation mark on a holiday, not the headline itself.
