Twll Pant-hiriol Hut Circle

Getting to Twll Pant-hiriol means heading out from Bangor into proper wild North Wales terrain, where you'll stumble across the low stone remains of an Iron Age hut circle - think circular foundation walls, weathered and stubborn, still holding their shape after two thousand years. It's not much to look at if you're honest, just a ring of stones in moorland, but that's rather the point. There's something compelling about standing where someone actually lived, cooked, slept, all that time ago.

Archaeology buffs will find this worthwhile; you get a genuine sense of Iron Age settlement patterns that museums can't quite capture. Walkers doing the longer routes around Conwy and Snowdonia might swing by as a waypoint, especially if you're tackling the hills near Ogwen Valley. Families with teenagers into history could make it work as part of a broader ramble, though younger kids will probably get restless - it's low-key, no facilities, no interpretation boards.

There's no admission fee (it's an exposed archaeological site), and you can access it freely, though getting there requires a decent walk across moorland from the nearest proper track. Allow two hours total if you're making a detour; less if you're passing through. Best visited from late spring through early autumn when paths are driest.

It fits well with a caravan base at Snowdon View or Ogwen Bank, both within striking distance. Pair it with Conwy's proper attractions or longer walks, not as a standalone destination but as part of the landscape story.
