Tewel Belt

The Tewel Belt is a proper woodland walk in Aberdeenshire that locals seem to know about far better than visitors do. It's a forested strip running through the countryside near Stonehaven, offering the kind of easy ramble that doesn't require any special planning or equipment - just decent shoes and an hour or so to spare.

Once you're in, the canopy does its job: you get that lovely sense of being away from things, even though you're only a few miles from the town. The paths are manageable, nothing too steep, though they can be muddy after rain. It's woodland for the sake of woodland really - no dramatic ruins or viewpoints to aim for, which means families with younger kids might find the appeal wearing thin fairly quickly. The three caravan parks clustered nearby - Stonehaven Queen Elizabeth Park (2.7 miles away), Upper Crawton Park, and Cloak Caravan Park - all sit within easy striking distance, making this a decent afternoon option if you're based at any of them. Since there's no charge for entry and no formal opening hours to worry about, you can slip in whenever suits. Early morning or late afternoon tends to be quieter. The real value here is as a low-key addition to a broader Aberdeenshire break rather than a destination in its own right.
