Stonehaven Clock Tower

The Clock Tower dominates Stonehaven's town center like a Victorian sentinel keeping watch over the harbor. Built in the 19th century, it's one of those proper focal points that anchors a coastal town - locals use it to tell the time, tourists use it to orientate themselves before heading down to the seafront.

It's not a grand structure by any means. You won't spend hours here. But it's worth a proper look if you're passing through, especially if you're interested in Scottish municipal architecture. The tower sits right in the heart of things, so you'll naturally find yourself there while exploring the town's shops, pubs, and that excellent waterfront.

For families camping nearby - and there are several top-rated parks within a couple of miles, including Stonehaven Queen Elizabeth Park and Upper Crawton Park - it's a convenient landmark to meet up or grab a photo. Kids won't be gripped by it for long, but it marks the spot where you can then head toward the castle or beach.

Access is straightforward since it's bang in the town center. Best visited on a clear day when the light catches the stonework. If you're staying at one of the caravan sites in the area, it's essentially on your doorstep. Don't make a special trip, but do stop if you're in Stonehaven anyway. It tells you something about the town's past without demanding much of your time.
