Sunny Hill

From the summit, the Shropshire Hills roll away in every direction like a crumpled green blanket. Sunny Hill delivers exactly what its name promises - a proper viewpoint that catches the light beautifully, especially in late afternoon when the whole landscape seems to glow.

The walk up isn't particularly demanding, though it's steep enough to get your heart rate up. Takes about 45 minutes from the nearest parking spot, following well-marked footpaths through sheep pasture and patches of woodland. Kids who can manage a decent hike will love scrambling about on the rocky outcrops near the top.

What makes this peak special is its position - you're looking out over some of the finest countryside in the Welsh Marches, with Bishops Castle visible in the valley below. On clear days, the view stretches well into Wales proper. It's free, obviously, and accessible year-round, though spring through autumn offers the best walking conditions.

Perfect for those staying at one of the many campsites dotted around Bishops Castle. Shropshire Luxury Glamping and Wild Valley Glamping are both within easy driving distance, making this an excellent morning or evening expedition. Allow half a day if you want to take your time and perhaps explore some of the other footpaths that web across these hills. Well worth the effort for anyone who appreciates a good view without the crowds you'd find at more famous peaks.
